Requirements for your driving licence
In order to obtain a driving license in Berlin, your main residence must be in this city. This means that you are registered here and stay at least 185 days a year in Berlin.
There are different minimum age regulations for the different driving licence classes:
16 years for class A1 (scooters and motorcycles up to 125 ccm)
18 years for class B (cars)
18 years for class A2 (motorcycles up to 35 kW)
24 years for class A (motorcycles with unlimited power)
You must also be able to drive a vehicle in your driving licence class safely.

Six steps to your driver's license

application
We can handle the application for your driving licence online for you. A visit to the authorities is not necessary. You will need the following documents:

- Your registration confirmation if you do not have a German identity card.
- A biometric passport photo that is no more than six months old.
- The confirmation of participation in a first aid course.
- The confirmation of a current vision test.

When you register, you must decide whether you want to do the training with an automatic transmission or a manual transmission. After an automatic training you can only drive with automatic cars.

02 theory
With your registration at the "Asphalt-Profis" Drivingschoool you get a learning tool for your smartphone (Android or iPhone) with which you can learn the theoretical material online and offline at any time.
Paralel you have to participate in 10 -16 lessons of theory (depending on your driver's license class and your driving license). You can choose to take the theory course in German or English. Our driving school office will inform you about the exact dates.
After completion of the 5th lesson you can start with the practical training.
After you have received your admission to the exam from the driving licence authority by post, have completed the prescribed theory lessons and you have worked through 90% of the learning curve, you can go to the exam organisation for the theory exam. If you have passed, you will receive a confirmation. This is a prerequisite for the practical exam.
If you have not passed this is not a drama, then you can try again two weeks later.

03 practice
After completion of the 5th theory lesson you can make appointments for practical driving lessons. You don't have to be afraid of your first driving lesson. First, your driving instructor will explain your car to you in peace and quiet, with which you will learn to drive and with which you will also pass your exam. First you will start in a quiet residential area and depending on your personal progress you will work your way through the city traffic step by step. During the driving lessons you will not only learn the numerous traffic rules and how to secure your vehicle, your driving instructor will also show you the different tricks for manoeuvring and parking.
The "asphalt profis" have modern driving school vehicles with numerous assistance systems, such as Park Distance Control or rear view cameras. During the whole training your friendly and experienced driving instructor will be at your side. So your training will be a pleasure.
However, it is important that you have at least a good command of English, so that communication with your driving instructor is always possible without problems.

04 mandatory
lessons
As part of your driving licence training, you must complete 12 mandatory driving lessons:
5 driving lessons on country roads a 45 min.
4 driving hours on motorways a 45 min.
3 driving hours in darkness a 45 min.
This training phase takes place at the end of your training, when you have already mastered your vehicle safely. We usually combine these mandatory driving lessons within three dates. You will have to take a little more time for this.

05 pretest lessons
In the last 2 - 3 driving lessons before your practical exam we will prepare you specifically for your exam. Now you won't get any direct help from your driving instructor, he will only give you the driving directions as it will be later in the exam. Only if you make mistakes will he analyse them together with you and give you tips on how to avoid them in the future.
Only when you and the driving instructor are sure that you are ready for the exam will you be registered by our office for the practical exam.

06 practical exam
Your driving instructor will accompany you to the practical test with your usual training vehicle. Before that you have 40 minutes to warm up.
The actual practical exam takes 45 minutes (cars) or 60 minutes (motorcycles). For the Class B exam, the examiner sits in the back of the car. Now he has the command. For motorcycle tests, the examiner drives behind your motorcycle with the driving instructor in the car.
If you have passed your exam successfully, you will receive a temporary driving license from the examiner. It is valid for three months and you are only allowed to ride it in Germany. Your correct driving licence will be sent to you by post within four weeks by the driving licence authority.
